Salute to service: Veterans Day may be over, but honoring our veterans never goes away. Each year the National Purple Heart Honor Mission announces the honorees selected for 2026 Purple Heart Patriot Project Mission.
Congratulations to veteran Jerry Galant, U.S. Army Vietnam, selected from among hundreds of nominees and deserving candidates from around the country for their courage and service, both in combat and in their communities.
New hotel coming: A 119-room Hampton Inn hotel is planned for 33040 Just Imagine Drive near the Emerald Event Center.
Expansion: Culvers, 1439 Center Road, will be adding a second drive-thru service lane and extending the existing outdoor patio.
Construction update: Roadwork continues at the intersection of State Route 83 (Center Road) and Detroit Road. Visitors to Avon Commons will notice westbound curb lane closures on Detroit Road as concrete installation will begin this week. The entrance/exit will remain open during the construction, but delays can be expected. Consider using the east entrance and exit out of Avon Commons to avoid congestion.
Curb ramp installations near Healthway Drive and French Creek are scheduled for next week, weather permitting.

State of the Schools: Superintendent Scot Prebles will present the district’s third annual State of the District Board Meeting at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 24 at the Bay Middle School library, 27725 Wolf Road.
Car seat fitting: Car Seat Fitting Stations are a free service offered to the public where parents, grandparents, and other caregivers can get help safely and securely installing car seats.
University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Car Seat Fitting Stations are staffed by nationally certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians who are experts in the proper use of child restraint systems.

North Ridgeville
Photos with Santa: Get into the holiday spirit from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 22 and snap a few festive photos with the big guy himself! The North Ridgeville Leo Club will be hosting this cheerful event, plus a fun ornament craft for kids and families to enjoy, at the North Ridgeville Academic Center, 34620 Bainbridge Road. Donations are accepted.
Food, toy drive: Please consider contributing to the annual Food and Toy Drive by donating non-perishable food items and new toys in their original packaging to benefit North Ridgeville Community Care.
Donation boxes will be available at City Hall, Parks and Recreation, and the Senior Center on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. now through Nov. 26. Your generosity helps bring comfort and joy to neighbors who need it most this holiday season.
Root Road Park improvements: City officials recently announced major upgrades at Root Road Park, made possible through $500,000 in state funding awarded via House Bill 2. The project includes expanding and paving the parking lot, enhancing stormwater drainage with a new detention pond, and adding a landscaped mound. Work is scheduled to begin this month.

Rocky River
Office hours: School Superintendent Adham Schirg has been extremely visible district-wide since taking over in August. Every month he hosts coffee chats and office hours which are both excellent ways to talk with him and ask any questions you have regarding the district. There is no excuse not to be informed.
The next Superintendent Open Office Hours takes place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Nov. 18 at Beach School (Fireside Room), 1101 Morewood Parkway.
Fall play: The Rocky River High School Drama Club presents, “Play On!” Show times are at 7 p.m. Nov. 21-22 at the school’s auditorium, 20951 Detroit Road. Tickets are currently on sale.
Westlake
Who done it?: The Westlake High School Drama Club is bringing “Clue – High School Edition” to the stage. Grab your friends, enjoy the laughs, and see if you can solve the mystery.
Show time is 7 p.m. Nov. 21-22 at the Westlake Performing Arts Center at the school, 27830 Hilliard Blvd.
Christmas show: Clague Playhouse presents, “The Wickhams: Christmas at Pemberley,” from Nov. 14 through Dec. 14. Performances are on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and on Sundays at 2 p.m. There is no performance on Thanksgiving.
Talk-backs with the cast and crew will be held after the show on Nov. 15, Nov. 23, and Nov. 29.
Admission is $21 for adults, $20 for seniors (60+), and $13 for students (any age with a valid ID) and may be purchased by calling the Box Office at 440-331-0403 (box office hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 1 to 6 p.m. and on show nights for two hours before curtain) or online. A limited number of free student (high school and college) tickets for Thursday performances are available by calling the Box Office at 440-331-0403 to reserve for any Clague Playhouse Thursday performance, and showing a Student ID at the time of ticket pickup.
