Avon

Breakfast flippin: The Original Pancake House is now open in the former Heck’s space, 35514 Detroit Road (remember Heck’s moved to the former Melt Bar and Grilled space).

B-I-N-G-O!: Help support the Avon Middle School Drama Club and enjoy a fun night out with the family playing Bingo from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 22 at Avon Middle School, 3445 Long Road. Purchase 11 Bingo cards for $15. Bring cash to the event as there will be raffles and other items to purchase.

Happy retirement: School Resource Officer Pat “Sully” Sullivan at Avon High School is retiring from the Avon Police Department (second retirement). Officer Sullivan has kept students and staff safe for more than a decade.

Lenten season: It’s Fish Fry season and one of the best in the area is the St. Mary’s Avon Holy Name Fish Fry Friday taking place from 4 to 7 p.m. Feb. 27 at St. Mary’s school gym, 2680 Stoney Ridge Road. Dine-in or carry-out is available. Dinners include a choice of perch, walleye or shrimp.

Job fair: The Lake Erie Crushers are hosting a Job Fair for prospective part-time roles, seasonal positions, and internships for the 2026 season. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 28 at ForeFront Field, 2009 Baseball Blvd.

The Crushers are looking to make over 100 hires ahead of the 2026 season including the areas of concessions, parking attendants, ushers, in-game production, stadium operations, marketing, retail, and more.

Avon Lake

Pruning class: The Avon Lake Tree Commission and Public Works Department are offering a free hands-on Backyard Fruit Tree Pruning Class from 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 12 at the Old Firehouse, corner of State Route 83 and Lake Road, with arborists from Bartlett Tree Experts.

Italian restaurant not coming: The owners of Agostino’s Bistro & Pub were planning to open a location in the former Rico’s Taco’s & Tequila, 33493 Lake Road, space.

After reaching out to check on the progress, the owners replied that they ‘decided a while ago not to open at that location.’ No additional information was given in the reply.

Life saving donation: Community West Foundation, in partnership with Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital, recently awarded a $45,885 grant to the Avon Lake Fire Department to support the purchase of two LUCAS Mechanical CPR Devices. The devices will enhance the department’s ability to deliver consistent, high-quality, lifesaving care during cardiac emergencies.

The LUCAS Mechanical CPR Device provides continuous chest compressions during cardiac arrest, allowing first responders to focus on other critical aspects of patient care while improving safety for both patients and emergency personnel.

The grant was made possible by funds raised through the annual Straight from the Heart raffle, which supports cardiac services and heart-healthy initiatives across Cleveland Clinic’s Avon, Fairview, and Lutheran hospitals, as well as their surrounding communities.

Bay Village

Beautiful music: Bay High School sophomore Iris Hunt recently participated in the All-State Choir at the Ohio Music Educators Association Conference (OMEA) in Columbus.

Vintage goodies: The 56th Annual Antiques & Vintage Show, coordinated by the Bay Village Women's Club, will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 21, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 22 at Bay High School, 29230 Wolf Road.

Free jewelry evaluations will be available from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 21, and free antique valuations will occur from noon to 2 p.m. Feb. 22.

Proceeds benefit the high school scholarship fund.

North Ridgeville

New business: Queen’s Chamber, 34910 Center Ridge Road Suite #4, is planning a soft grand opening celebration from noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 14. The women’s boutique serves sizes Large–4XL, featuring exclusive, high-quality pieces made to help every woman feel confident and crowned, according to the owners.

Shoppers will also find the luxury skincare line, His Temple, handcrafted to cater to all skin types and conditions.

Through JoJo’s Foundation, Queen’s Chamber is committed to uplifting our youth and supporting those in need. Proceeds from custom T-shirts will help fund community initiatives while giving youth the opportunity to earn income, gain hands-on experience, and build confidence.

Construction project updates: The North Ridgeville City School district officials recently announced the district’s Transportation and Maintenance Center is officially up and running. The facility is located on Ranger Way across from the police station.

The new facility is 17,700-square-feet, with four bays and a bus wash bay. At any given time, there will be room for five buses indoors, plus the ability to store eight trucks/vans.

The district bus fleet is currently at 65.

Regarding what will happen with the former facility, district officials noted that the maintenance building will be demolished in the near future. The old transportation building will be used as construction offices throughout the high school project and will be demolished after the project is complete.

The new high school design is finalized, the site is almost ready, and construction is gearing up, according to district officials.

With spring around the corner, vertical construction is next. Updates are posted on the district’s website.

Upcoming city officials chats: Take time to meet your elected officials at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 23 at North Ridgeville Branch Library, 35700 Bainbridge Road.

The next Coffee and Conversation with Mayor Kevin Corcoran will take place from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Feb. 25 in Council Chambers at City Hall, 7307 Avon Belden Road.

Joining the mayor this month will be Kevin Fougerousse, Parks and Recreation director, who will share updates and be available for questions.

Grant funds: North Ridgeville Firefighters IAFF Local 2129 and the city recently partnered to apply for a community safety grant through Columbia Gas and were awarded $5,000 to support fire prevention materials, equipment and community education efforts.

Safety improvements: The city continues to advance pedestrian safety improvements in the Lorain Road and Lear Nagle Road area. Preliminary plans for additional crosswalks, pedestrian signals and signage at the Lorain and Lear Nagle intersection are currently under review, with the improvement package expected to be advertised for bid later this month. The city is also coordinating with FirstEnergy on additional lighting installation and LED upgrades in the corridor.

City Council has authorized the city to apply to the Ohio Department of Transportation for funding of broader pedestrian safety improvements along the Lorain Road corridor, with the potential to receive up to $2 million.

Rocky River

Beautiful artwork: The Rocky River Gallery 21st annual Ceramic Invitational runs now through March 28 at 19046 Old Detroit Road.  

Cultural event: Experience Moroccan hospitality during the Morocco Bazaar, brought to you by United Moroccan American Association of Cleveland Ohio (UMAACO), from 3 to 8 p.m. Feb. 14 at Memorial Hall, 21016 Hilliard Blvd. Entry is free.

The event features authentic Moroccan food, décor, traditional fashion, and refreshing Moroccan mint tea. Come out and support local small businesses.

Treatment options: An educational program regarding the role of pharmacy specialists in treating Alzheimer's disease will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Rocky River Public Library, 1600 Hampton Road.

Westlake

New businesses opening: The grand opening of Local Revue, 25939 Detroit Road, an upscale consignment boutique, will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. Feb. 11. The shop was originally located in Bay Village.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 12 for Care Healing Hands, 26059 Detroit Road.

BrightPath Child Care, 4655 Bradley Road, will host a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. March 12.

New officer: Welcome Officer Grant Williams, the newest member of the Westlake Police Department.
